TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) - The town of Tabor City reported a wastewater spill from its collection system at the end of Burns Street this week.
The untreated wastewater was about 3,600 gallons. It happened for about six hours Wednesday, when Tropical Depression Beryl was making its way through southeastern North Carolina.
The wastewater entered a canal of the Grissett Swamp of the Lumber River basin. The wastewater treatment plant had exceeded capacity with the heavy rain and flooding in the Grissett Swamp. Town crews are trying to figure out if any of the flooding was due to manmade obstructions in the area.
