Film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks movie set to shoot in Wilmington, Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - It's official – movie crews and executives are set to start shooting a movie in Southport in just a few weeks. They'll also be filming in Wilmington.

Crews have already started building sets for the movie Safe Haven, which is the film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel. During the final two weeks of June, the film's crews will be filming in the Wilmington Convention Center, according to WCC General Manager Susan J. Eaton.

The movie's scout reportedly requested access to the lawn area to stage approximately eight hair, make up, cast and star trailors.

Local businesses are excited about the news, but some residents say that there have been so many movies filmed there that it's not really that big of a deal to them.

"It's alright," said resident Buck Smith. "Not everyone gets something out of it."

Locals should be aware there will be some traffic changes due to construction and filming.

Filming is expected to wrap up at the end of summer.
