I've had plenty to grumble and complain about on this segment this past month and I almost let a big celebration slip by without drawing your attention to it. I'm talking about the United Way of the Cape Fear Area's annual campaign celebration.
Under the leadership of businessman and campaign chair, Tim Milam, United Way Vice President of Resource Development, Melissa Reabold and United Way President, Chris Nelson - and with the help of hundreds of volunteers and some diligent workplace campaign coordinators, the campaign again exceeded the prior year by raising over two and a quarter million dollars.
That really is worth celebrating. And they did earlier this month with a breakfast where they handed out plenty of appreciation awards. You can see the full list of honorees on their website at uwcfa.org.
I do want to give some special recognition to this year's highest honoree, The Spirit of Cape Fear Award going to GE Wilmington. They put a lot of emphasis on community involvement and then they back it up with action. GE Wilmington is responsible for over a half million dollars being raised for this year's campaign. That's huge.
And I don't want to leave anyone out. If you donated your time and/or money to the United Way, thank you. It's people like you that help communities like ours keep changing for the better.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at email@example.com.
