You could hear a lot of commotion and hysteria on the 911 calls in regards to this incident. It's difficult to understand what some of the callers are saying, but it is easy to make out their pleas for an ambulance to get there as soon as possible.
"They're kids. Oh my God, they're kids," one caller told 911 dispatch operators. The same caller went on to say, "He's about to die. He's not going to make it – he's barely breathing."
Less than a minute later, the same caller told the 911 operator that the young man had died.
"He's gone. He's done – he's not breathing anymore."
Police responded to the scene just before 11:00 p.m. and learned from witnesses McPhatter was shot after he and another man were fighting. The shooter ran from the area.
