TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) – Four men accused of shooting into a car that had babies inside are in custody of Tabor City Police. Officers, however, are looking for another man who may also be involved in the incident.
According to police, Lilly Stephens and DeAngelo Lewis were riding in a car on Sixth Street in Tabor City around 8:00 Sunday night when five men walked in front of their vehicle and fired shots.
"It was pretty close," explained Lt. Jerry Sarvis. "It went through the rear glass out through the front windshield."
Sarvis said more than a dozen shots were fired at the car.
"We found all the casings," said Sarvis. According to the lieutenant, the fact the passenger had his seat back may have saved his life.
Investigators said two 8-month-old babies were sitting in the back seat when the shooting happened.
"It just shows people being very irresponsible," said Sarvis. "I don't know any other way to say it, besides stupid. They were shooting up and down a street, which is a safety risk to the public.
Police arrested Terrel Billings, Wayne Billings, Xavier Hemingway and David Hemingway Monday in connection to the shooting. They are all charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Investigators tell us, the feud stems from a long feud between two families.
According to police, no one was injured in the incident. There are reports of a bullet hole in a nearby home, but it is unclear if it's related at this time.
