BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A teenager is dead after the NC Highway Patrol says he overcorrected and flipped his SUV near Holden Beach.

Trooper Hardee told WECT.com that Ryan Chase Dilworth was driving a Tahoe down Stanbury Road when he ran off the road.

Hardee said Dilworth tried to get control of the vehicle and ended up running off the other side of the road, causing the SUV to flip.

Dilworth was 17 years old.

Troopers said he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. They also said speed and alcohol did not contribute to the accident.

Highway Patrol confirmed to WECT.com that Dilworth's father is a police officer with Holden Beach Police Department.
