Investigators want to know what caused a fire that destroyed an oceanfront home in Carolina Beach and nearly took out the house next door Wednesday. No one was injured in the fire but it was a long day for firefighters. It took over an hour for firefighters to put out the flames at the three story home on Carolina Beach Avenue North. The gables on the house created a suction effect and that made the fire harder to extinguish. The homeowner, Harold Cook, lives in Mount Airy so the house was empty went the blaze started. Investigators say the home was being renovated and new kitchen appliances were just installed but they don't know if that caused the fire.
