ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) – A 50-year-old woman from Bladenboro is dead and a 25-year-old Elizabethtown woman is facing second-degree murder charges.
Around 3:26 a.m. on Sunday, Elizabethtown Police officers responded to a call at 310 Martin Street. When they arrived they found Vanessa Moultrie Jones, of the 300 block of Ivey Street, on the ground in the front yard, according to Chief Robert Kinlaw.
EMS took the victim to the Bladen County Hospital where she later died.
Investigation revealed that the suspect, Brittany Aretina Williams, and some of Jones' family members had been in an argument and Williams tried to hit two people with her vehicle. Kinlaw said that when Williams hit Jones with her vehicle, she left the scene.
Jones' body was taken to Chapel Hill Monday morning for an autopsy. The SBI reportedly responded to process the crime scene and to assist in the investigation.
Williams was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of second-degree murder. According to Kinlaw, she was booked into the Bladen County Jail with a $100,000 secured bond.
The case is still under investigation.
