Calabash commissioners vote to increase sweepstakes tax

CALABASH, NC (WECT)- It's going to cost sweepstakes parlor owners in Calabash a little more to stay in business.

Commissioners voted 3-2 on Tuesday night to raise the tax rate from $200 to $500.

Additionally, any business where machines are a primary use must also pay a fee of $2500 per year.

Operators will see the increase take effect on their next tax bill.
