WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- Foot pain is, unfortunately, all too common among many of us.
To learn about prevention, treatment, and other tips, we spoke to Dr. Kevin Bachman from Coastal Carolina Foot and Ankle Center.
"Especially now, it's the end of winter, everyone is out enjoying themselves, training for marathons, half marathons, triathlons, however all the excessive training can cause a lot of foot ailments," says Dr. Bachman.
Some of the most common ones include heel pain, ball of the foot pain, stress fractures, ingrown toe nails, and bunions.
"The most important message to get out there," says Dr. Bachman, "is that a lot of these ailments can be complicated to treat, but they are a lot easier to prevent."
The best way to keep feet pain free is by wearing high quality, custom insoles, suggests Bachman. Lose the high heels if possible, or if you insist, make it a wedge or a thicker heel.
Another way to help? Insoles. But not just any kind. The drugstore kind won't do much.
"A molded insert can be a huge help. They are hard, but flexible enough to bend. It's resilient, made out of graphite. It supports the foot evenly disperses forces across the foot."
Laser therapy is another popular option among people with foot pain. It reduces inflammation and improves the condition of feet in just a few visits.
