I received an email this week concerning the same-sex marriage amendment. What I perceived the writer to say was; if it is in the Bible, it should be in the law, and in this case, a part of our state's constitution.
Well that got me to thinking - and we know that can be dangerous. Does that mean there should be a law for every commandment in the Bible? Or worse yet, for every sin identified by God or Jesus? I hope not.
Let's just look at the "Big Ten." There are laws dealing with some of them - killing and stealing comes to mind. But as much as I think it is a good thing to do, I don't think we should be in the business of legislating that you love the Lord or your neighbor. And we've all seen what's happened in modern times with most of the Blue Laws honoring the Sabbath.
But the one that would really get me worried would be that one about coveting. I hate to think I could get carted away every time one of my neighbors gets a fancy new car, a nice boat or a deluxe gas grill.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
