WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Students from 45 area middle and high schools came together Saturday afternoon in the name of science.

As part of the Science Olympiad, students took part in different competitions all day at UNCW.

Some participants flew model helicopters and rockets, while others worked to see how much weight their wooden towers could handle.

The state Science Olympiad is a non-profit group that tries to teach students what it is really like to be a biologist, engineer, or other kind of scientist.
