Mom collects diapers, baby products for families in need

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to statistics, one in three families have a hard time putting diapers on their babies.

"It's about $100 a month on average to diaper a baby, and there's a lot of stories out there of moms who are trying to decide between buying the next box of diapers or buying the food they need that week to put on the table," said Robin Riggs Organizer, Happy Bums Diaper Drive.

Robin Riggs is a mom and business owner. When she heard the statistics and realized there were so many families who couldn't afford diapers she decided to do something about it.

Robin organized the Happy Bums Diaper drive which starts March 1 and will run for the entire month. Donations being accepted include unopened boxes of diapers, wipes and baby creams.

The items can be dropped off at several locations in Wilmington, and at the end of the month will be collected and distributed to local families in need.

The drop off locations are:

  • Peanut Butter & Jelly in The Forum
  • Both locations of Learning Express
  • Gold's Gym Porters Neck and Racine
  • Domestic Violence Shelter
  • Katy's Bar & Grill
  • Bluewater Yacht Sales, Wrightsville Beach
