LELAND, NC (WECT) - The town of Leland has confirmed the firing of the former police chief, Tim Jayne, and hired a second interim chief.
Jayne was fired earlier this month in what Town Manager David Hollis called a reorganization of the town. He appealed the termination, but the town announced Monday the termination will stand.
Also Monday, the town announced Lloyd James Jr. will now serve as interim police chief, replacing the first interim chief Karl Smith. Smith will return to his duties as Deputy Chief.
James has most recently worked with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. He has more than 25 years experience in law enforcement and was the police chief in Stoneville, North Carolina at one time.
In the release, Hollis said he anticipates the search for a new chief will take several months. Hollis says there's no specific time frame to find the permanent chief.
