WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Civil War history buffs got their chance to enjoy the action up close this weekend. This is the 7th year the Cameron Art Museum has held its Civil War Living History Weekend.
"We love doing this," said Derrick Smith. "We love honoring our forefathers and that's one reason why so many of us are in this today."
Smith is the captain of Company K, the 20th North Carolina. They setup camp and positioned themselves as soldiers would have in the Battle of Forks Road. That battle took place right next to the art museum.
Smith has been doing this for the past seven years and said he does it to preserve history and to show what happened right here in peoples own back yards.
