CHICAGO (WECT) – According to officials with GasBuddy.com, over the next few days and coming weekend, North Carolina drivers can expect the likelihood of a sharp rise in gas prices.

"I expect stations to increase prices as much as 5-20 cents per gallon by the conclusion of the weekend with some stations starting to raise prices immediately," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst, in a statement.

According to DeHaan, a refinery fire in the state of Washington is causing a significant increase in prices across US.

Additionally, prices are said to be going up sharply in New England, Florida, and East Coast areas

"Prices across the State of California already made significant advances in the prior seven days, and with the refinery fire, motorists should expect prices to rise in similar fashion as last February when the Libyan situation unfolded," said Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski.
