Mat BattsUNCW Press Release
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Mat Batts was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week after tossing seven hitless innings in his UNCW debut last weekend against Ohio.
Batts' seven-innings of no-hit baseball was the longest by a Seahawk since 2002 when Brian Whitaker went 6 2/3 innings against Old Dominion.
He shared the honors with Brett Koehler of William & Mary and Georgia State's Bedn Marshall.
Batts walked one and hit two, but struck out a career-high eight batters, but did not figure in the decision. The Seahawks rallied in the 10th to top the visiting Bobcats, 6-5, on Thomas Pope's bases loaded two-run single.
The Seahawks visit NC State on Tuesday before heading to Oxford, Miss., for a weekend series against nationally-ranked Mississippi beginning on Friday.
