CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – Folks dressed up in all kinds of elaborate costumes and took a polar plunge at Carolina Beach for a good cause Saturday.
2012 marks the eighth annual Polar Plunge that benefits the Special Olympics.
Plungers raised money in order to participate, and organizers say those funds stay local.
Organizers say between 400 and 500 people raised money and took part in the event.
Bangz Hair Salon won the costume competition, with its employees dressed as the Flintstones.
