Old man winter strikes back

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - After seeing a high of 57 in Wilmington Saturday afternoon, an Arctic cold front will bring some very cold air into southeast North Carolina this evening along with frigid wind chills.  By 8 PM our exclusive hour by hour forecast model shows wind chills plummeting to the 20's by 8 PM and into the single digits in many locations by Sunday morning!

Skies will clear and the actual low should fall to around 24 by Sunday morning.  That won't be as cold as the low of 20 we saw on the morning of January 4, however northwest winds of 18-25 miles per hour ensure it will feel like the coldest morning of the entire winter.  Winds will on lighten slightly Sunday afternoon.  Highs will reach the mid 40's but afternoon wind chills will run in the mid 30's.  Time to find the: heavy coats, hats , and gloves.
