Whether or not you're a fan of the holiday, it's hard to see a lasting impression it can make. Your chocolates are eaten in days, your flowers are dead in weeks, and you're lucky to find the card you received last year.
Mark Weber, an artist recently relocated to the Port City, believes his creations can make any special occasion, particularly Valentine's Day, a time to celebrate. Mark designs custom comics for anyone wanting to give a professionally personalized present.
"It's a lot of fun, the process," said Weber.
The concept seems simple enough. You tell him a little about yourself and the person set to receive the comic. For example, a comic hanging in his corner booth at Blue Moon on Racine Drive shows a couple watching football together, hiking together and later tying the knot.
"It can really bring you in and look at the background and kind of relive the experience," said Weber.
Mark has provided illustrations for publications around the country from The New York Times to Rolling Stone. He's even highlighted some local ones like Wilma Magazine and the Greater Wilmington Business Journal – remember that front page with Iron Man?
"Comics are my first love," said Weber, "and they've always been there."
Now Mark wants his first love to be a keepsake for your current love.
"It's something you're going to hang on to for the rest of your life," said Weber.
