Morning police chase

The search for accused rapist John Melvin MacMullen ended in some frightening moments for one Wilmington Police officer Friday morning. About 3:45 am authorities started chasing what they thought was the Suzuki Esteem that MacMullen had reportedly stolen.

Police chased the driver as ran towards Lakeside High School, where he dumped the car and took off on foot. That's when one of the police cruisers following the car caught on fire. The cruiser was loaded with ammunition, so officers cleared the area until fire fighters arrived. The blaze was quickly extinguished and no one was hurt.

Police later caught the driver of the fleeing vehicle and found out it wasn't MacMullen. No word on what charges that driver may face.
