NEW HANOVER COUNTY and BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – It's been said before that politics makes strange bedfellows, but redistricting seems to have some politicians feeling even stranger.

The political season kicks off Monday, and since the North Carolina General Assembly redrew the district lines, many voters might not be familiar with their potential representatives in Raleigh and in Washington.

Ilario Pantano is once again running for Congress after unsuccessfully trying two years ago.

This time around, he believes he could be a winner – but he'll have to win by gaining the support of not only the people in the Port City, but additional voters who live nearly two hours away.

While he says he's enjoying meeting new people, he'll be the first to admit it hasn't been cheap, spending extra money on gas and other travel expenses.

Anyone driving along Highway 74/76 in Brunswick County knows that State Representative Susi Hamilton is hoping to grab voters' attention.

Per the redistricting, Brunswick County is now in her district, and she already has signs and even a billboard there.

Still, Hamilton hopes that because Brunswick neighbors New Hanover County, she won't have to spend a lot there.

2012 marks the first election in ten years where there are new district lines.
