NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Emergency crews shut down River Road around lunchtime Thursday after a crane traveling on the road hit power lines.

The power lines are lying across the road and will need to be cleared before traffic will be allowed in the area.

Drivers are being told stay inside their cars in case the lines are still charged.

We saw the power flicker twice inside the WECT Studios just after noon as a result of the fallen power lines.

The City of Wilmington's operations center on River Road is experienced power, telephone and email outages, but those services were restored Friday.
