WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)- The WECT Get Fit Club welcomed its newest member today. Amy McCauley is well known in the fitness community, especially at Gold's Gym, where she is a personal trainer and Pilates instructor.
McCauley packs a lot of strength into her tiny frame, but she didn't get that way by spending hours in the weight room.
Instead, smaller, more precise movements are shaping her body like nothing else did.
"When you do Pilates, its more of a sleeker, thinner, leaner look," says McCauley.
McCauley teaches to a packed house every class, and her students are willing to do whatever they can to work out with her.
"Oh my gosh, I don't miss a day," says student Lourdes Grossman. "And I work my schedule around my Pilates classes."
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility, strength and endurance. It works just about every muscle.
Judy Jones is another Pilates enthusiast. Taking the class every week has helped her drop 100 pounds.
"Abs, back, legs, arms, it was a full body transformation for me."
Its also a mental workout. You'll leave the class with less tension and stress.
"My expectation of them is just to do what they can do and relax and enjoy themselves, and let go of any stress they have from the outside world," says McCauley.
Young or old, this is also a class where age doesn't really matter.
"I want everyone around me to be able to leave this room and say, this changed my life today."
McCauley teaches Pilates at Gold's Gym on Racine Drive. To check out the days and times, visit here.
You can also get a DVD of McCauley's Pilates. That is available here.
