They said that the number of bookings is higher this year than it was last year and that hotels being built near the Convention Center will make it even more successful in the future.
The full-year estimate of events at the Convention Center in 2012 is 114, which is up from the 78 events held there in 2011. The most common form of event type was banquets (33), followed by meetings (25) and public events (14).
Council members approved a limit for the center's booking
policy. Before, a convention could
prevent a similar group from booking up to 90 days before or after an event,
but now that 90 day is split to no more than 45 days before or after.
Councilman Rivenbark said it will open the calendar for more
conventions.
