BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Brunswick County voted unanimously Monday night to continue negotiations with a company for the purchase of the former Brunswick Community Hospital property.

Crown Management offered $1.5 million for the 32-acre property in "as is" condition. The county advertised that bid for 10 days and didn't receive any higher offers, according to Commissioner Bill Sue.

The company said it would take about a year to get the hospital ready to buy.  The county wants Crown Management to sign a one-year lease and take over utilities and maintenance until then.

Crown wants to expand to 60 beds for the psychiatric medical services it plans to provide in the facility.

In a letter sent to Commissioners, Crown said they hope this project will create more than 80 jobs and provide crucial mental health services to the county's population.  Chairman Bill Sue is excited about the potential economic growth this project could bring.
