WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The price of premium television sets might not cost as much as they used to, but football fans aren't necessarily staying home for the big game.
A packed house at Mugsy's Pub cheered the New York Giants onto victory Sunday night. Locals know the downtown Wilmington bar as Giants territory, but so do fans coming from as far away as the Empire State itself.
Vinny Narzano made the trip south to watch the Super Bowl with his brother Bill and nephew Ian. He said he's been bleeding blue forever.
"It's great to see the tradition carry on to the young generation," said Narzano, "and all the way down south."
Meanwhile, the Patriot Nation wrapped a season-long tradition of watching New England at Firebelly Lounge in downtown Wilmington. The group branched off of Wilmington's Red Sox Nation, and now coordinator Karen Heath said the ‘Nation' makes her feel like she's back home.
"There's nothing like watching the game as a group," said Heath, "you just get that feeling."
Both Red Sox and Patriot Nation can be found on Facebook, according to Heath. She said the only requirement is that you have to be a fan.
