WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Around 7:20 this morning the word famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which according to legend means six more weeks of winter.  However other groundhogs such as General Beauregard Lee in Georgia disagree along with many Meteorologists.

I can't speak for groundhog folklore but as a Meteorologist we know that we have seen a very mild winter across much of the U.S.  The polar jet stream has been locked up across Canada for much of the winter, which has not allowed much Arctic cold to invade the U.S.  Going forward through mid February it appears that the polar jet stream will remain locked up well to the north.  We will see occasional invasions of cool air but nothing extremely cold.  This Meteorologist is siding with the General!
