BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick County Commissioners are now in negotiations with a company for the purchase of the former Brunswick Community Hospital property.
Crown Management offered $1.5 million for the 32-acre property in "as is" condition. The county advertised that bid for 10 days and didn't receive any higher offers, according to Commissioner Bill Sue.
If accepted, Crown Management has proposed using the building to operate a mental health care hospital or a psychiatric resident treatment facility. The two owners of Crown said they have over 50 years of experience in the operation of treatment facilities in North Carolina.
In a letter sent to Commissioners, Crown said they hope this project will create more than 80 jobs and provide crucial mental health services to the county's population.
The county is looking at other options, such as tearing the facility down, but Commissioners hope to make a preliminary decision at their meeting on Monday.
