BURGAW, NC (WECT) - The town of Burgaw is working on a plan to make downtown safer for pedestrians.
A roundabout project has been in discussion for nearly five years now, with the idea in mind to reroute large semi trucks that cut through the downtown area.
The proposed roundabout would be near the intersection of South Walker and East Wilmington streets, but some involved with the design say the Department of Transportation's proposed structure isn't big enough.
"It would be better not to build it," said Johnny Westbrook, owner of Burgaw Antiques. "It would be better to leave it just like it is as a light and continue until it can either be done right, or not done."
Westbrook says he hopes the town is willing to pursue funding so that the project can get started within the next two years.
