Money in a Minute: Ebates gives you cash for shopping

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – If you're not getting paid to go shopping online, maybe you should be.

There are a few rebate sites out there that promise to give you cash back just for shopping online.  One of them is Ebates.  The site gets commission for referring you to the stores, and then it shares that commission with you.

Ebates has been around for a few years and occasionally someone will complain about not getting a rebate check.  But when we tested it out, we found that it worked just fine.

All you have to do is set up an account, pick a store, and then Ebates will start a tracking ticket for you.  After that tracking ticket is established, you can go shopping.  It seems most of the time, you'll get around 5-percent back either in a check, through Paypal or you can even have money sent to your favorite charity.

The company will send out a "big fat check" every three months as long as you have at least $5.01 in rebates.  If you don't meet that criteria, you'll have to wait until the next pay period.

We haven't had any issues with it yet.  In fact, Michelle Li got a little more than $15 after her holiday shopping.  If you're going to spend the money anyway, you might as well give it a shot.
