OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) – The former town manager of Oak Island has yet to see severance after being fired in December.

Jerry Walter's contract with the town says he is owed a full year's salary, an amount of $160,000 when benefits are added.

Interim Town Manager Chad Hicks said Walters will not receive the money until it's approved by the town council.

During a meeting January 10, there was a motion to transfer money from the fund balance to the general balance to pay for the severance, but there was no second on the motion so it was denied.
