Before coming to FOX Carolina in 2012, Derek spent over a decade in radio and television stations all over the South. He started working in radio, while he was still in high school, for the radio station in his hometown. While he was still in college, he made the move to Chattanooga, TN, where he worked in radio, before making the jump to television. He worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor for WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, and also was a reporter, producer and fill-in anchor for WBBH-TV and WZVN-TV in Fort Myers, FL.
On the weekends, I love to: Work! Since I'm a weekend anchor, I work Saturdays and Sundays. My days off are during the week--and I'll either be catching up on my DVR, relaxing or hitting the gym.
My favorite kind of music is: A little bit of everything, as long as it sounds good.
My favorite food is: Almost anything Italian, but a weakness for good ol' Southern food.
Hidden Talents: I have a photographic memory. It's a gift and a curse.
Hobbies: Movies, technology and photography.
Most Memorable Story: I don't really have one that I could call my 'most memorable', but there are ones that do stick out more than others. Usually, anything involving natural disasters or animals sticks out.
