WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to a statement from the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Coast Guard ship Cutter Diligence will return to Wilmington on Thursday, Jan. 19 after 40 days in the Caribbean Sea.
The ship was at sea in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South, and on December 10 Diligence departed Wilmington for Norfolk, VA for a maintenance period to repair damage propeller blades.
Afterwards, Diligence headed south and teamed with the Helicopter Interdiction Squadron (HITRON) to counter drug operations.
During the patrol, the ship's crew engaged in over 40 flight evolutions, drills and various boat exercises.
Wilmington is where the ship's homeport is located.
