CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) - Schwan's Home Service is shutting down its facilities in Castle Hayne and Hope Mills, which means the loss of at least ten jobs.
The company sent an email to customers of the food delivery service this month explaining the closure.
"Like many companies, Schwan's Home Service routinely evaluates opportunities to create efficiencies and strengthen its business. Unfortunately this sometimes means it is necessary to close locations that are not profitable," Chuck Blomberg, Schwan's Communication Manager, wrote in email to WECT.com. "Given the impact on employees, the decision to close a facility is very difficult and is made only after careful consideration and evaluation. It is ultimately guided by what is necessary to strengthen the company's competitive position and ability to provide the best products and services to its customers as a whole."
Service areas for these depots range from 50-70 miles, which means everyone in the WECT viewing area is affected.
Blomberg says the facility will close down within the next month. All ten employees have been offered severance packages and help with finding a new job.
