WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Police have identified the woman's body that was found in the backyard of a Cowan Street home Friday.

Police say family members reported Latricia Ana Scott, 24, as missing on Wednesday night.  She was found buried in a yard at 1115 Cowan Street Friday.  The medical examiner says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to her head.

Police caught the murder suspect after a standoff that lasted several hours Friday night.

Officers captured Andrew Bernard Adams, 55, of Wilmington.  According to Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous, Adams has a criminal record that includes rape and sex crimes against children.

The standoff reportedly began around 7 p.m. at a house at Sixth and Harnett streets, after members of a U.S. Marshals task force reportedly tried to serve a warrant on Adams.

Sources on the scene say a SWAT team entered the premises, and the SABLE helicopter was circled the area. Several loud sounds were heard, and police say they set off gas canisters to evacuate the building.

Adams is being held without bond in the New Hanover County Detention Facility.
