Southport doctor to run against Charles Warren for commissioner

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Southport resident Dr. Joe Agovino announced in a statement Thursday afternoon that he plans to run against Commissioner Charles Warren for the Republican Nomination for County Commissioner from District 3.

Agovino describes himself as "an energetic, forward looking innovator who is a fiscal conservative."  Agovino also holds a Ph.D in Psychology, a MSW in Social Work, a Master of Professional Studies in Criminal Justice and a BA in Sociology.

Additionally, Agovino says he has been an NC real estate broker since 2000 and has more than 17 years experience in county government under his belt, and is a small businessman. Previously, he ran against Warren for Dosher Hospital Trustee successfully in 2005, and recently was reelected again last year.

Agovino's announcement just before Warren's upcoming hearing scheduled for next week.

Warren kicked out a reporter and fellow commissioner Patricia Sykes during a meeting in mid-December. He was upset that Sykes tried to add an agenda item, and said she was out of order.
