Firefighters learn to rescue one another

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Crews with New Hanover County Fire Rescue and Wilmington Fire Department are working together for a fire training program that runs through Friday.

The training at CFCC's North Campus is unique in that it involves rescuing firefighters.  The focus is to make sure that all rescue equipment, strategies and procedures are compatible and consistent in the event a firefighter would need to rescue another that was trapped or out of air.

"As our departments continue to work together, it is extremely important that our procedures mirror each other as closely as possible," explained WFD Fire Chief Buddy Martinette.  "In a situation of rescue, it is imperative that they be exactly the same."
