WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police
Department arrested a man accused of breaking into a unit in Avalon Apartments on
Excalibur Way around 11:00 Tuesday night.
According to Lucy Crockett with WPD, a young woman reported
she was in her apartment with the door unlocked when a stranger walked in. She said her dog chased the intruder out of her
home.
New Hanover County 911 dispatch said they received a call
Tuesday night from a resident saying someone was trying to wiggle their
doorknob and get into their apartment.
An officer responding to the call spotted a man matching the
description of the stranger and tried to stop him for questioning, but the man
ran. The officer was able to catch up to
him after a short foot chase.
The officer arrested Michael Anthony Hall, 20 of Wilmington,
and charged him with burglary, possession of cocaine, and resisting arrest.
About an hour later, another resident of Avalon Apartments
reported being robbed at gunpoint.
According to Crockett, a resident on Quail Ridge Road was
hosting a Texas Hold'em poker game when two or three men wearing masks and
armed with handguns walked into the apartment's unlocked front door.
The victims told police the intruders held everyone at
gunpoint and took cash, cell phones, credit cards and jewelry before leaving.
They say one of the intruders fired a shot into the ceiling
during the robbery.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to
contact the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600.
