WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Animal Control Services Manager Jean McNeil was fired from her position Tuesday morning.
The move came immediately after a meeting with Health Department Director Dave Rice, effective immediately.
McNeil had been on administrative leave since December 22, 2011 after a dispute with county officials over pay from Hurricane Irene.
However, McNeil says she isn't giving up just yet.
"This is not resolved and I will keep pursuing it," she told WECT Tuesday. "There are procedures in place that allow me to pursue this."
McNeil says three people who were scheduled to work the Saturday of Hurricane Irene were paid for regular pay. However, McNeil says since New Hanover County was in a state of emergency, they should have been given emergency pay.
McNeil says she went to Rice with the issue, but didn't get satisfaction. She says she couldn't go to the Board of Health, because they have no jurisdiction over him.
McNeil had been in charge of animal control for the last 21 years. She said earlier this month that she believed she would be terminated.
