BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The mayor in Sunset Beach is striking back against allegations he says town council members made against him.

Rich Cerrato has only been the mayor for about a month, but council members already say he needs to clean up his act.

They have compiled a list of incidents where they say the mayor pushed the boundaries of his elected office, including a promise to fix a pot hole and allowing a family assistance program to use an empty building without proper permits.

Now, Cerrato is requesting council to ask the North Carolina School of Government to send someone to investigate the allegations.  He says none of the claims are based on facts and council members are trying to hide certain things from the public.

"Sometimes I think of a bunch of kitties," Cerrato explained.  "They poop and they bury it, and this is not going to happen with this episode because it has embarrassed a lot of people."

Cerrato presented a packet to council members during Monday night's meeting responding to the allegations.  He also included a resolution to bring in an independent voice from outside of Brunswick County.
