Hearing for Brunswick landfill expansion continues
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A special exception hearing for a proposed landfill expansion in Brunswick County will continue to a fourth meeting. The new meeting was planned after the county's Planning Board listened to more than six hours of testimony Monday.
Several members of Royal Oak Concerned Citizens' Association (ROCCA) attended the day-long hearing, but they let their attorneys do the talking. Some of those residents are set to testify as witnesses, but few were called upon Monday.
Several witnesses for Brunswick County spoke before the board. Both noise and odor experts said the proposed landfill would not affect the current harmony of the area.
Representatives for the county presented a sitting review of the landfill, but ROCCA's counsel objected to it. The board decided to send the evidence to the county's Technical Review Committee before considering it.
The hearing will continue Monday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. in the Commissioners' Chambers at the Brunswick County Government Complex.
