Home that was damaged twice from fires on Starfish Drive.
HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WECT) – For the second time in about a
month, house fires have sparked at homes on Starfish Drive in Holden
Beach.
The most recent fire happened Saturday morning at a home
that suffered water damage while fire crews were trying to fight the first
blaze in December.
"Thing is you don't know what to expect," said homeowner
Wallace Harrelson after the fire in December.
"When I came here, I could see that we were blessed. It could have been like our neighbors over
here – a total loss."
Property Manager and Mayor Alan Holden said the Harrelsons
were working on the home to make it ready to be rented again by vacationers.
"They're broken hearted and upset," explained Holden. "They had suffered damage from the previous
fire."
Firefighters said the fire started in the kitchen and spread
to the living room. The cause of the
fire is unknown at this time, but fire officials do not believe it was suspicious.
The Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department is still
investigating what started Saturday's fire, but they believe a tool being used
for the renovation work could be to blame.
Several fire departments responded to the fire this
weekend. Although it does not appear to
have a lot of damage on the outside, smoke and heat heavily damaged the entire
home.
