Construction work beginning at proposed baseball site

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Construction work is beginning on the site that could be the home of a baseball stadium in downtown Wilmington.

Crews are tearing down an abandoned building at the corner of Front and Brunswick streets.

The developer, Chuck Schoninger, who owns the property, is paying for the demolition.

Hotels and restaurants are to be built at the location, even if plans for a baseball stadium don't move forward.

Schoninger remains hopeful that the two sides will come together to work out how to bring baseball to the Port City.
