Man jumps off parking deck in uptown Charlotte crashing to the ground

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man jumps several stories from a parking deck in Uptown crashing to a sidewalk below.

The first 911 calls came into the fire dispatch center just after midnight on Friday, about a man who may have been shot along 5th Street right across from Time Warner Arena.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrived to find the victim laying in a heap next to the light rail tracks.

Officers quickly determined the victim wasn't shot, but at the time were at a loss to explain his injuries which was obvious to passersby were severe.

He was rushed to the hospital by Medics so doctors could assess his injuries.

After talking with witnesses, police figured out the as of yet unidentified man jumped off a parking deck.  They said they're not sure how high he was at the time, but it was at least several stories.

When questioned on why the man jumped, the CMPD said the man was intoxicated at the time.

There's no word on his current condition.
