COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Longtime State Representative Dewey Hill told WECT.com Thursday afternoon that he does not intend to run for an 11th term in office next year.
Hill is entering his 20th year of service as a representative for Brunswick and Columbus counties.
Hill, a Democrat, says he wasn't planning to announce his decision until January, but since there's been a lot of speculation he's decided to go public. He says he was waiting to see if a quality person who could help the area would run and he's heard several names of people he likes who are considering it.
Chadbourn Mayor Kenneth Waddell announced earlier this month that he would run for the seat once again. Waddell lost in a challenge to Hill two years ago in the Democrat primary.
