NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Dr. Tim Markley, the superintendent of New Hanover County Schools, doesn't believe the DC Virgo Urban Preparatory Charter project is over just yet.
He blogged about the state denying New Hanover County's application to create the charter school and explained that the sub-committee rated the original plan as "average or excellent in every category and provided an overall recommendation for approval. It was only denied when it went to the full Charter Advisory Board."
Markley also stated that the Charter Board will have to move from a governance board to an advisory board in the next plan.
"There is some flexibility that is lost; however, I think we can and will overcome those obstacles," he blogged.
Markley expects to present a revised plan to the Board of Education in January and hopes to re-open the school in the fall.
