GREENSBORO, NC (AP) - A North Carolina man faces a felony charge after state troopers in Guilford County say he slammed into the back of a sports-utility vehicle, sending eight members of a family to hospitals.
One woman in the SUV was thrown from the vehicle and was taken to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro in critical condition. Her in-laws, her husband and their four children suffered less serious injuries after their SUV rolled several times Sunday morning.
State troopers have charged 27-year-old Mitchell Edwin Winfree of Reidsville with felony hit-and-run, DWI and reckless driving. His telephone was disconnected early Monday.
Troopers reported that Winfree was driving a car on U.S. 220 at a very high speed when he hit the SUV.
