WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Friday marked the busiest day of the year for the United States Postal Service.
More than 97 million folks stop by post office between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve to send something to their loved ones.
Folks in Wilmington flocked to the post office to send their boxes, bags and cards to those who are close to their hearts.
Considering it was the postal service's busiest day of the year, the lines around town weren't too long, making it pretty painless for people like Antionette Betrand to send her family cards. She and her daughter can't make it home for the holidays.
"The plane tickets have gotten real high," said Betrand. "I should have got it ahead of time…I can't travel, so I'm sending them cards."
Across town at the UPS Store, people stayed busy wrapping and shipping to make sure every box can make it home for Christmas.
If people don't want to pay extra at UPS, Friday is the deadline to ship to the west coast. For the east coast, customers have until Tuesday to ship ground.
