Bladen Co. man charged with attempted murder of girlfriend

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A 34-year-old man from Bladen County was charged with attempted murder on Dec. 1.
Eric Freeman, of the 1800 block of Boggy Branch Road in Council, was arrested after allegedly slashing his girlfriend's throat, according to Captain Rodney Hester with the Bladen County Sheriff's Office.
The victim reportedly met Freeman on Columbus County Road because he wanted to see her cell phone. After looking at the phone, the sheriff's office said an argument started and Freeman began beating and kicking her. He also cut the right side of her neck with a knife.
A friend drove the victim to a safe location and call 9-1-1. She was transported to the Bladen County Hospital.
Freeman is in the Bladen County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
